"Voodoo Lounge" signaled a big comeback for the Stones. Their first album in five years, it was the first album they recorded under their big bucks contract with Virgin Records. It landed near the top of the Billboard charts when released, and spawned the hit singles "Love Is Strong" and "Out Of Tears." A double album's worth of material, it's their best studio effort since 1981's "Tattoo You." The songs cover a lot of musical ground, from full on rockers ("I Go Wild," "Mean Disposition") and sultry funk rock ("Love Is Strong" and "Brand New Car") to ballads ("Out of Tears" and "Blinded By Rainbows") and odd experiments (the spare "Thru and Thru" and the steel-pedal guitar tinged "Moon is Up"). Many people rank this among their favorite Stones albums. With good production by Don Was and solid, fun songs, I do, too.
