Review:
- 3 (out of five)

"Goat's Head Soup" was somewhat of a letdown after the Stones released "Exile On Main St." in 1972, considered by many as the best music the Stones put to tape. It's dominated by the soaring Mick Taylor guitar solos that bogged down "Sticky Fingers," and this album really suffers from it. Most of the songs are midtempo rockers that just go nowhere. Amongst all the cubic zirconia are some of the most precious gems, though. "Angie" is a beautiful ballad, "Heartbreaker" is a dark rocker, and "Star Star" is a raucous barroom rocker about the perils of promiscuity in Hollywood. An extremely average album, it might be worth it to buy it for those three great tracks.
