"It's Only Rock N' Roll" finds the Stones experimenting a bit with their sound, but firmly fitting within the mold of seventies rock bands. The classics here include the staple "It's Only Rock N' Roll," the punchy "If You Can't Rock Me," and the thoughtful, soaring "Time Waits For No One." This album is the last to feature Mick Taylor on guitar, and you can really hear him in the mix. He plays most of the leads and solos, and if you're not a fan of his winding, long-winded solos, this ain't the album for you. However, the songs themselves are quite good and a lot of fun. Their cover of the soul song "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" is a good listen, as is the reggae tune "Luxury" and the tight rockers "Dance Little Sister" and "Short and Curlies." The Stones try R&B in "If You Really Want to Be My Friend" and it works. The album ends on a somewhat silly note, where Mick comments on paranioa and spying in "Fingerprint File." The album is good, but not incredibly memorable, but it is deserving of a place in a Stones collection
