Review:

This is, simply, the greatest piece of music the Stones ever made. Few albums in the history of rock can even compare to the musical genius on this double album set. It's the perfect mixture of blues, gospel, country and straightforward rock n' roll. It's filled with blaring horns, rhythmic and beautiful guitars and soulful vocals. Every song is a keeper.

Mick defines rock n' roll attitude when he sneers "Oh, yeah!" over the riff opening "Rocks Off." Other things of beauty include the horn section in Keith's "Happy," the vocal interplay in "Let It Loose," the country shuffle of "Sweet Virginia," the driving beat in "All Down the Line," and gospel choir backing Mick in the spiritual "Shine A Light." The most fun tracks on the disc are the concert fave "Tumbling Dice" and the piano-driven "Loving Cup," which was actually written during the "Let It Bleed" sessions three years before. Thankfully, they waited until '72 to use it on this wonderful record. There's something for everybody here, and everyone should have this one in their collection.
