The Stones began to experiment with many things in 1967. They first discovered LSD, and they began to change their sound. They experimented a lot on "Between the Buttons," adding french horn in a few tracks, playing with mandolins and other instruments throughout. The album ends on a silly ditty, "Something Happened to Me Yesterday," which features Keith's first appearance as a vocalist. It's a fun album, but is mainly viewed as a transitional piece, with their music moving from pretty straight blues-rock to psychodelia on their follow up to this one, "Their Satanic Majesties' Request." Many songs stand out, though, like the classics "Ruby Tuesday" and "Let's Spend the Night Together." In the last few years, Keith has been playing "Connection" in his live solo shows, breathing life into that little-known classic. "Cool, Calm & Collected" is a fun tune that speeds up and up and up until it's boiling at the end. Good, but not great record.
